All

To
thee all angels cry aloud:
the
heavens, and all the powers therein.
To
thee cherubin and seraphin: continually do cry,
Holy,
holy, holy: Lord God of Sabaoth;
Heaven
and earth are full of the majesty: of thy glory.
The
glorious company of the apostles: praise thee.
The
goodly fellowship of the prophets: praise thee.
The
noble army of martyrs: praise thee.
The
holy Church throughout all the world: doth acknowledge thee;
The
Father: of an infinite majesty;
Thine
honourable, true: and only Son;
Also
the Holy Ghost: the Comforter.
Thou
art the King of glory: O Christ.
Thou
art the everlasting Son: of the Father.
When
thou tookest upon thee to deliver man:
thou
didst not abhor the Virgin’s womb.
When
thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death:
thou
didst open the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
Thou
sittest at the right hand of God: in the glory of the Father.
We
believe that thou shalt come: to be our judge.
We
therefore pray thee, help thy servants:
whom
thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.
Make
them to be numbered with thy saints: in glory everlasting.

The
Bidding
given by
The
Very Reverend David Ison,
Dean
of St Paul’s
We
come to this Cathedral Church today to give thanks to almighty God for
the
prosperous reign of The Queen and to rejoice together in this year of Her
Majesty’s
Jubilee as we celebrate sixty years of her sovereignty and service.
As
we come together as loyal subjects from all parts of the Realms and
Commonwealth
of Nations, we give thanks for the blessings bestowed by God
on
our Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth, and we celebrate the identity and
variety
which our nations under her have enjoyed.
We
come as people of faith to pray for Her Majesty The Queen and all
members
of the Royal Family; asking that God will continue to bless and guide
them
in all that they undertake, and that they may find strength and
enrichment
in the celebration of this Jubilee.
We
also come to give thanks for HerMajesty’s loyal service and commitment,
lived
through a deep sense of vocation in Christ to the glory of almighty God;
praying
that we may be inspired by her example, and that God will continue
to
grant her steadfastness of faith and the love of all her people.
All
these our thanksgivings and prayers we offer to almighty God in the words
that
Jesus taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Hymn
All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell,
Come ye before him, and rejoice.
The Lord, ye know, is God indeed,
Without our aid he did us make;
We are his folk, he doth us feed,
And for his sheep he doth us take.
O enter then his gates with praise,
Approach with joy his courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless his name always,
For it is seemly so to do.
For why? the Lord our God is good:
His mercy is for ever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.
To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The God whom heaven and earth adore,
From men and from the Angel-host
Be praise and glory evermore. Amen.

The
Old Testament Reading
read by
The
Right Reverend Michael Colclough,
Canon
Pastor, Canon in Residence
Does
not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? Hear, for
I
will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right; for my
mouth
will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words
of
my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them. They
are
all straight to one who understands and right to those who find knowledge.
Take
my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold;
for
wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare
with
her. I, wisdom, live with prudence, and I attain knowledge and discretion.
Proverbs
8. 1, 6-12
The
Psalm
Ascribe
unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people:
ascribe
unto the Lord worship and power.
Ascribe
unto the Lord the honour due unto his Name:
bring
presents, and come into his courts.
O
worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness:
let
the whole earth stand in awe of him.
Tell
it out among the heathen that the Lord is King:
and
that it is he who hath made the round world
so
fast that it cannot be moved;
and
how that he shall judge the people righteously.
Let
the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad:
let
the sea make a noise, and all that therein is.
Let
the field be joyful, and all that is in it:
then
shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the Lord.
For
he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth:
and
with righteousness to judge the world, and the people with his truth.
Glory
be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;
As
it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be:
world
without end. Amen.

The
New Testament Reading
read by
The
Right Honourable David Cameron, MP,
Prime
Minister
I
appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to
present
your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is
your
spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by
the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of
God
– what is good and acceptable and perfect.
For
by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of
yourself
more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober
judgement,
each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For
as
in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the
same
function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually
we
are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the
grace
given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the
teacher,
in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the
leader,
in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.
Let
love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one
another
with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour. Do not
lag
in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in
suffering,
persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend
hospitality
to strangers.
Bless
those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those
who
rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another;
do
not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than
you
are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble
in
the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live
peaceably
with
all.

Sermon

Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr Rowan Williams,

of Canterbury, Primate of All England and Metropolitan
Anthem
O
thou the central orb of righteous love,
Pure
beam of the most high, eternal light
Of
this our wintry world; thy radiance bright
Awakes
new joy in faith, hope soars above.
Come,
quickly come, and let thy glory shine,
Gilding
our darksome heaven with rays divine.
Thy
saints with holy lustre round thee move,
As
stars about thy throne, set in the height
Of
God’s ordaining counsel, as thy sight
Gives
measured grace to each thy power to prove.
Let
thy bright beams disperse the gloom of sin,
Our
nature all shall feel eternal day,
In
fellowship with thee, transforming day
To
souls erewhile unclean, now pure within. Amen.

Let
us give thanks for the lifelong service of Her Majesty as Monarch of this
Nation
and Realms; as Head of the Commonwealth; as Defender of the Faith
and
as a servant of the people. We pray that God will continue to bless and
guide
her and that she may continue to find love, joy and peace in her life and
in
her duties.
Lord,
in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.
O
God, who providest for thy people by thy power,
and
rulest over them in love:
vouchsafe
so to bless thy Servant our Queen,
that
under her this nation may be wisely governed,
and
thy Church may serve thee in all godly quietness;
and
grant that she being devoted to thee with her whole heart,
and
persevering in good works unto the end,
may,
by thy guidance, come to thine everlasting kingdom;
through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Let
us also give thanks for the rich inheritance of custom and values which we
find
in this United Kingdom and throughout the Realms and Commonwealth.
We
pray that we may grow closer together in our partnerships of government,
business,
and civil society.
Lord,
in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.
Go
before us, O Lord, in all our doings,
with
thy most gracious favour
and
further us with thy continual help,
that
in all our works begun, continued and ended in thee,
we
may glorify thy holy name
and
finally, by thy mercy, obtain everlasting life;
for
thy name’s sake we ask it.
Amen.
Let
us give thanks for the witness of the Christian Church, and of communities
of
faith throughout the world, as we grow in respect for the traditions and
wisdom
of our brothers and sisters. We pray that God will bless our common
witness,
that as we share together in faith and service, we may be a powerful
symbol
of faith, hope and love under God.
Lord,
in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.
Teach
us, good Lord, to serve thee as thou deservest;
to
give, and not to count the cost,
to
fight, and not to heed the wounds,
to
toil, and not to seek for rest,
to
labour, and not to ask for any reward,
save
that of knowing that we do thy will;
now
and for ever.
Amen.
Let
us give thanks for the members of the Royal Family, for their service to
this
country, as well as for the support they give to Her Majesty. We pray that
God
will bless all that they do to support and encourage public and voluntary
service
through their work with Institutions of the State, charities and other
organizations,
that together we may honour one another, and seek the
common
good.
Lord,
in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.
Almighty
God, the fountain of all goodness,
we
humbly beseech thee to bless Philip Duke of Edinburgh,
Charles
Prince of Wales and all the Royal Family:
endue
them with thy Holy Spirit;
enrich
them with thy heavenly grace;
prosper
them with all happiness;
and
bring them to thine everlasting kingdom;
for
Jesus Christ’s sake.
Amen.
As
we give thanks for Her Majesty’s reign of sixty years and the example of a
life
symbolised by duty and sustained by faith, so we thank God for the
blessings
we have received at his hand and for that grace which he has
bestowed
on us in the Beloved.
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we thine unworthy servants
do give thee most humble and hearty thanks
for all thy goodness and loving-kindness
to us, and to all men;
We bless thee for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for thine inestimable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ,
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And we beseech thee,
give us that due sense of all thy mercies,
that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful,
and that we shew forth thy praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives;
by giving up ourselves to thy service,
and by walking before thee
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost
be all honour and glory,
world without end.
Amen.
God
grant to the living, grace;
to
the departed, rest;
to
the Church, The Queen, the Commonwealth
and
all humankind, peace and concord;
and
to us his servants, life everlasting.
Amen.

Hymn
O Praise ye the Lord!
Praise him in the height;
Rejoice in his word,
Ye angels of light;
Ye heavens adore him
By whom ye were made,
And worship before him,
In brightness arrayed.
O praise ye the Lord!
Praise him upon earth,
In tuneful accord,
Ye sons of new birth;
Praise him who has brought you
His grace from above,
Praise him who has taught you
To sing of his love.
O praise ye the Lord!
All things that give sound;
Each jubilant chord,
Re-echo around;
Loud organs, his glory
Forth tell in deep tone,
And sweet harp, the story
Of what he has done.
O praise ye the Lord!
Thanksgiving and song
To him be outpoured
All ages along:
For love in creation,
For heaven restored,
For grace of salvation,
O praise ye the Lord! Amen. Amen.

Lord
of wisdom, Lord of truth, Lord of justice, Lord of mercy;
Walk
beside us down the years till we see you in your glory.
Striving

Entering

I

I

Silver

Jewels

Hymn
Guide me, O thou great Redeemer,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty,
Hold me with thy powerful hand:
Bread of heaven,
Feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain
Whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through:
Strong deliverer,
Be thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of death, and hell’s Destruction
Land me safe on Canaan’s side:
Songs of praises
I will ever give to thee.

Since when have the afflicted ever been on their honour?
Beautifully done, Your Grace
I wonder if the Lord Jesus will get a look in? A passing mention perhaps - probably as the archetypal social liberal, if at all?
Fantastic to be able to follow the service, as we listened to it on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Thank you for posting this.

I've noticed a recent spate of: ''Comment deleted - removed by a blog administrator'' thingies; one wonders if they are down to Dodo, or the Inspector, having dragged-in something on the soles of their boots?
Are we under attack Your Grace?
A magnificent tribute to a truly wonderful Lady, whose main virtue, not apparent in just about all her Parliamentarians, high-ranking Clergy, ex- and serving Military, etc.etc.; is that she has served us loyally and truly whilst remaining resolutely both private and silent.
What a true blessing it would be if more of her more voluble subjects, and a whole heap of the late arrivals, would emulate Her Majesty and simply keep quiet!
I missed HRH the Duke, and wish him well!
Your Grace,
With reference to the Collect...
Since when was the risen and ascended Lord Jesus Christ not Master?
It seems to me that the current archbishops have approved the idea that so long as Jesus can be kept off His throne, and confined into His role of dumbly washing the feet of humanity, all will be well with the world.
Oswin,
wonder if the intention of the 'inspector' and 'the dodo' is in fact to close down His Graces site by posting outrageous remarks deliberately intended to offend all and sundry?.
I think you do Dodo and the Inspector an injustice. There are probably plenty more outspoken republicans and athiests that would gladly post an obscene comment or two.

Why thank you Mr Integrity.
And now to the actual theme of the thread; what a wonderful service this morning. Makes one proud to be British.
Happy to second Mr Integrity's comment at 19.57.
One can wonder gentlemen......(that is still allowed I presume these days) I wondered why these two (inspector and dodo) visit 'gay blogs?.'Is it simply to 'soak up the atmosphere' or another reason?.The mere mention of gayness seems to throw this pair into a frenzy I wondered(again) why?. And no I am not' gay'.
Dodo (bit off thread but I thought you might be interested) I met a street preacher the other day, an Irish gentlemen I was quite impressed with his style of preaching and obvious integrity(and dogged determination to preach the gospel despite heckling and a fair bit of abuse from onlookers.)
I engaged the said gentleman in conversation and he told me he was a former Catholic who got' conned'into going into going into a Protestant Church and got saved!. Praise God!.
Thought(not wondered) you might be interested.
My comment was addressed to Oswin but please feel free(anybody) to join in!.
I to am proud(sometimes) to be British!.

Oh do run off somewhere dark and damp with all those nasty little 'thoughts' and your 'wondering'.
I have nothing to say to you that would escape the blog administrator's attention.

Can anybody find me

Thank you, Your Grace. This makes up for the appalling BBC coverage.
dodo, you have a lot to say for someone' with nothing to say? (well nothing worth hearing anyway?)
Back to the theme of this thread.
Britishness , free speech, the right to be oneself,individuality,freedom. H M is part of the uniquely British National identity.
Not Kowtowing to the' herd mentality' these are some of the attributes that make up' Britishness' and well worth hanging onto.
There are those who desire to make us British conform to a' European model' of political Correctness , thank God for those who have the courage to remain true to their identities.
'Be not conformed to this World'................
little weasel pope len
It was you who attempted to 'rally the troops' against the Inspector and myself with your snide comments and cheap accussations. Fell on stoney ground, didn't it?
Hypocrite.
The Congregation sat in the body of the Cathedral will then.... This isn't the only infelicity in the programme.
Of course, one is more concerned with the spirit of the Service than with the Letter of grammatical correctness. It's nevertheless a pity that, for an occasion of this magnitude, the Church can't polish up its application of the Queen's own language. They weren't presenting this on the run for a 'twitter' or blog, after all.
Oh well, maybe they got charitable and hired some of the 'Occupy' people -- or the workers who had to sleep under the bridge.

PS: Though thank you, Your Grace, for publishing the text. It was very helpful when I watched the videos.
Dodo, I seriously hope I am wrong about your intentions.....( posting inflammatory,derogatory, un -Christian remarks)
The words 'weasel 'and 'pope' sit well together don``t you think?
Don`t tell your Priest that though, he might get upset you using the word' Pope' as an intended insult!.
little weasel pope len
You are the one who posted false testimony against the Inspector and myself.
You are the father of all weasels. So weasel pope is a very apt title.
Hyocrite.
Aye Len, being insulted by Dodo is a bit like being given the Royal Seal of Approval: you must be doing SOMETHING right.
I see you've still got your wooden spoon Oswin. I could recommend a much better use for it.
Dodo: you defy all reasonable comment.
How so Oswin? You've never made one!
Oh the irony of David Cameron reading Romans 12 : 1-18
I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to
present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is
your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of
God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of
yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober
judgement, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For
as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the
same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually
we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the
grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the
teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the
leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one
another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour. Do not
lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in
suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend
hospitality to strangers.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those
who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another;
do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than
you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble
in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably
with all.
Romans 12. 1-18
